Wanna Know Christian's Birthday?

Today I had an amazing day at school. I didn't get much work done this afternoon because I had three former students come back to visit me: Stephanie, Christina, and Simonne. It is awesome to see that these girls have grown up and are super awesome mini-adults. Christina also brought in her son who is seven months old. Jayden didn't stop staring and smiling at me. I kept thinking about my little Christian and this is how old he will be in BALI!

Right before Stephanie arrived, Dr. Spehar's office called with a message to call them back because they had the date for the c-section. I listened to the message and got excited and thought how cool it was that they called to tell me this information when I have an appointment booked tomorrow. So, I called them back and she gave me the date.

Christian's birthday, if all goes as planned, is November 23, 2012. Isn't that cool? It is REALLY real now. That makes him a Sagittarius by one day.

Ok... a little add on here. Jonny and I were just in the kitchen cleaning up and there was a knock at the door. Jonny opened the door and there was a little bag outside the door and he looked down the hall to see the nice lady that is ALWAYS cleaning our building skittering away and giggling. She is so cute! I could hear her giggles. It is so cool that she was thinking about us and she must have known that this was a special day.

Sixth Appointment with Dr. Spehar: 31 Weeks, 3 Days

Today was doctor day. This is gross - but I had two little warts on the bottom of my right foot so I went to my family doctor this morning as a walk in patient. My doctor was away but I had a nice woman doctor who zapped those babies right off! Now, which kid gave me that nasty virus... or was it me that is passing it around? Either way it is zapped and I cleaned the house and I am going to Lysol the school with a vengeance tomorrow. I will also be keeping my socks on while I dance - just in case it was a little niblet that infected me.

After I scoured the house and Windexed the floors, I went to the hearing doctor. I got my HA's turned up to 90%. He said that this may be as far as I want them up. I should try them at this level for six to eight weeks. So, I think I will focus on the baby and then deal with the hearing aids - if I want them turned up after I will go back. I probably won't want to hear the crying any louder. The doctor said, if I am not asking people to repeat themselves there is no need to adjust them further. And, they are loud now. I was on the fourth floor at the doctor's office and I could hear the bus outside. Weird. I was actually just having a conversation with Ian and part of it he was in his room! Amazing!

Finally, my last doctor stop was Dr. Spehar. I was nervous about this one because today was the day I was going to get to the bottom of the C section and I thought I would have to fight for my rights. I woke up at 3 am and couldn't get back to sleep because I was going over what I was going to say and Christian had the hiccups and kicked me a bunch. He was awake worrying too.

I am sure you can tell where I am going with this... it was easy. Dr. Spehar was awesome! She went over some papers and I signed them... and done. No fuss. She said that back in the day if a woman wanted to make this choice they had to bring their case to a committee. Anywho - it is done and she will book me in 6 weeks before and it will be during my thirty-ninth week. (around November 20.)

She measured me and she said I am normal but she is expecting a large baby. It won't be a little peanut she said. She took the heart beat and it was 135 - normal. She measured my blood pressure and that was normal too. She also felt around and she could tell which way the baby is. He is head down.

Oh ya... one other thing that she brought up while I was signing the papers was tubal ligation or salpingectomy. If I am only planning on having one child I could have my tubes tied or cut right out. I could also go back on the pill or use and IUD. All of these options will be things that I have to research and discuss with Jonny before any decision is made. It is a crazy one and it will take some serious contemplation.

The sun is shining and the laundry is waiting to be folded... LATER!

Christian's Room - New Idea

We decided to paint Christian's room the same colour as ours, blue, and then put these Toy Machine skateboards on the wall. Ed Templeton owns Toy Machine. He is one of our favourite skaters and he is also an artist. The hardest part about this plan will be Jonny not taking them off the wall and skating them!

28 Weeks, Day 6: Let's Talk about Sick!

I wasn't going to write about being sick. I was going to deal with it and get passed it and pretend it never happened. But then Jonny would get it. Then, I got sick again, and a week later Jonny got that one too. It is hard to pretend something never happened when it is right there.

I have read that I have less immunity and that is why I pick up viruses. The sucky part is I can't really take anything to get better. I have to use natural remedies which just makes everything seem longer and worse. I did go into two different Shoppers Drug Marts and both pharmacists didn't want to touch me with a ten foot pole. No one wants to recommend medicine to a pregnant woman. That is when I thought they should have a brand of medicine's specifically for pregnant women. I am surprised that this doesn't exist already. There is definitely a market for it.

Between the two of us being sick has taken up half of the summer. It would have been much more convenient if we were both sick at the same time but just as I am getting better, Jonny gets it. I am always hoping he has somehow been able to bypass it but then there it is. I guess this will get even worse when we have three! I have seen sicknesses devastate Sam's home. One after the other they all fall down.

On the bright side, this hasn't seemed to effect Christian at all. He is still in there kicking and moving around. I am way bigger than I was but I am not super huge yet. Soon though. It is coming! I am happy that I have been able to run, yoges, and dance all summer. And, now that school is back in - I am dancing all day too. In fact, I danced so much last week (while coughing!) that my right gastrocnemius is all knotted and tight. It makes me limp whenever I sit too long. But, I am happy to be back with my kids.

Fifth Appointment with Dr. Spehar's Substitue: 26 Weeks, Day 7

Dr. Spehar was on vacation so we had a replacement doctor whose name I did not catch. The great thing about this appointment was it was one minute early and I found out that I do not have gestational diabetes. YAY!

I peed in the cup, got weighed, blood pressure, belly measured, and the baby heartbeat was taken. The normal stuff and all normal. I didn't have any problems to report.

She asked if we were taking pre-natal classes and I said that I didn't think I had to take those if I was getting a c-section. That's where I went wrong. I shouldn't have brought up the c word. She forget to tell us anything more about prenatal classes and continued on a rant of RARE risk factors involved with my decision. I listened and smiled and said, "But most babies delivered by this method are fine, right?" The answer is affirmative.

I jokingly asked if it was still a boy and Jonny asked about the odds of the ultra sound technicians being wrong. Annina scared him with a story about a friend who thought she was having one sex and it came out the opposite. Now, Jonny is worried that Christian is ilo. He is worried that all of his plans and pictures in his head have been a waste. I just figure if it comes out a girl it can wear the boy clothes - no big deal really. Nothing to get upset over anyways. I still believe it is a boy and I am not going to worry about it either way. I am just going to continue on as I knew what I was doing. (This is my mom's saying.)

Jonny also asked about early and late births. The doctor told us that is what they are watching for. Our next appointment will be in three weeks and after that it will be every two weeks and then every week. We also found out if we do have a c-section they will perform that at thirty-nine weeks. When is that? Let me look it up on the calendar. Whoa!! Did I count right? That means that I will have the baby around November 20th!! I stop work on November 16th. Cool! No waiting around - Christian will be coming out to play right away.

All in all, this appointment left us with an overall bad feeling. There was a condescending tone to it. When Dr. Marketa is back at our next appointment we will make sure to deal with this c-section decision and get the consent forms signs and dealt with so we don't have to have THE TALK again. We will also find out more information about pre-natal classes. (I don't really want to take those - but I would like to find out more about them - where, when, and what they consist of - who knows? Maybe I do want to take them.)

Our next appointment is: September 27 at 1:15. That is four weeks... she was trying to book it in at three weeks but I am trying to work around school stuff now.

25 Weeks, Day 4: Glucose Testing - GROSS!

Let me tell you something cool before I tell you something gross. I have been able to feel Christian kicking me for a while now - since the last ultra sound but Jonny hasn't been able to feel him from the outside. Yesterday, I was looking down at my belly and I saw it move when I felt it. Last night, Jonny and I were watching TV (we got rid of Shaw now and are trying Novus - hopefully I won't loose any more posts!) and I could tell Christian was going to move again so I took his hand and rested it on my belly and he felt him kicking. He got to feel about four good kicks in a row. Isn't that special?

Ok - so this morning I got up and went down to the Roundhouse lab and had my glucose testing done to check for gestational diabetes. I did not realize that this was going to be so awful. It is not a fun test. I guess they had to one up it cause I was getting used to them taking my blood. So here is how it goes: You can't eat anything for 8 hours but you can have water. So, I went first thing in the morning after Jonny got on the SkyTrain to go to work. I hadn't been to this lab before but I like it. First they take three vials of blood. Then I had to drink a water and glucose drink - a whole bottle in five minutes or faster. I watched the clock and sipped and swallowed. It didn't taste that bad but it was so sweet and there was so much of it. I got it down and she gave me a cup of water and sent me back to the waiting room for one hour.

For the first while I felt like puking. My pussy eyes were tearing up because I felt gross. I got up and blowed my nose and sucked in my wimpy eyes. I sucked them dry of tears and sat back down. I focussed on my breathing and texted mom and Jonny making them aware of how awful it was. hahaha. I am such a baby! I then tried to focus on my book. I watched people come in and leave. An hour did not seem to take too long to pass. I was feeling a little better now but still a little queasy.

The second and third time they took blood they only took one vial. I was happy to leave and sit in the sun across from Urban Fare and call home and tell them about my big girl adventure. Jonny texted that I was a good girl and could eat the ice cream in the fridge but I do not feel like anything sweet. I keep burping up glucose mixture. I think we will be making salad for dinner tonight.

I think I will end with something pleasant as well. Here are some pictures of new clothes that we got for Christian:

This one if for a two year old - but how awesome is this hoodie??!! I want a zombie hoodie!
